The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) conferred the Distinguished Service Award to AFPSLAI President & CEO LtGen Cardozo M Luna AFP (Ret) on July 26, 2012, at the Bulwagang Apolinario Mabini in conjunction with the DFA day. The award is conferred upon chiefs of Mission who have served the Republic of the Philippines either as Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary or Consuls General who have conducted themselves with the highest degree of professionalism and have contributed substantially to the advancement of national interests abroad in the areas of bilateral, regional, and multi-lateral relations.
Prior to being elected as President & CEO of AFPSLAI, LtGen Luna was the Philippine Ambassador to the Netherlands based in the Hague, the Legal Capital of the World and International City of Peace and Justice. He was a Permanent Representative of the country to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which is an international agency located at the Hague, Netherlands. Among his accolades was serving as a Governor of the Common Fund for Commodities, which is a UN-funded organization assisting third world countries to augment food production. He was a key player for the Philippines’ defense engagements in Netherlands, as well as other countries in Europe.
